Blottos Brother Review

Saturday, 13th January 2007

At first I thought Blottos Brother was the last working Blogger generator in the market but I was wrong. There are a few more out there…

Blottos Brother comes in a 4-in-1 package consisting of “Post & Ping”, “Commenter”, “Passport”, and “Blottos”. The “Post & Ping” software posts content to your blogs and pings some ping servers, “Commenter” posts comments to your blogs, “Passport” generates all the usernames and emails for your blogs, while “Blottos” creates all the Blogger blogs.

I was excited to try Blottos Brother to see if it works well. Unfortunately it was a bad experience for me. I used it for a few weeks and decided to get a refund because it just isn’t intuitive enough. Let me explain…

Disadvantages of Blottos Brother

My biggest issue with Blottos Brother is the compulsory subdomain creation feature. At first I thought this would be a cool idea but after you create about a thousand subdomains on your web host, you might receive and email from your web host saying you’re using too much server resources. The only way to get around this is to get another web host account and pay more money.

The second most irritating bug I found was with the “Post & Ping” software included in this Blottos Brother package. If one of your blogs receives an error while posting, the whole process will cease to continue until you click on the “OK” button. Let’s say you have 100 hundred blogs to post and ping and blog 25 has an error, “Post and Ping” will simply stop at blog 25 and wait for you to click the “OK” button. This is not cool because I did not get a software to constantly wait to click on an “OK” button. This should be skipped automatically so that I can let it run throughout the night. Furthermore, there is not timer integrated to “Post & Ping”, you cannot schedule it to run on a fixed timetable. Once you click post, it will post one cycle and stop.

I also found the “Post & Ping” software slow and unstable when trying to import over 10,000 links into the software. It does not save the links in a text file and when the program crashes halfway through the import process, it will have to be done all over again and it does take quite a while to complete. I could not find a way to post more than 1 link in each blog post. In Blottos terminology, links equals to keywords so you will have to learn how to use it’s own coding format.

I personally find the speed of Blottos Brother to be rather slow. It takes about 1 minute to create 1 blog. You cannot launch multiple instances of the the software so it will take quite a while to generate a large number of blogs.

Lastly, I could not get the “Commenter” to work. The blog import feature does not seem to work and it did not post to any of my blogs.

Advantages of Blottos Brother

The best tool is the “Passport” software. It helps you to generate a long list of variables you need to enter to Blottos. This is the most flexible feature I have seen in all Blogger generators. Unfortunately, I did not get Blottos Brother to use this software only. The disadvantages still outweigh the advantages.

Conclusion

Speed of blog generation: 2/5
Ease of use: 1/5
Customization of blog templates: 2/5
Removal of your deleted blogs: 1/5

Total score: 1.5/5

If the above problems are fixed, this should be a very solid Blogger generator. I have contacted the author about them but he does not seem to want to fix them so I could not use this software any longer. I believe a software should work the way you want it so that you can work better and faster to instead of you adjusting to it’s limitations. The features are there but they do not work intuitively.
