4-Hour Work Week Impressions

Thursday, 13th November 2008

The 4-Hour Workweek is one of the most important books I have read in my life. Some of the information in this book might not suit certain people, but it suits me very well because I am a free spirit and this book gives me a roadmap on how to achieve a free and easy lifestyle.

I have read the book 2 and a half times and I am in the process of completing the exercises in the book. I am in the process of completing Tim’s Ideal Lifestyle Costing worksheet. It really is quite amazing how cheap I can live my ideal lifestyle outside of my country. Tim helped me to get out of my old and outdated idea that I had to be rich before I could travel and live in multiple countries.

According to Mercer’s 2008 Cost of Living Survey, Singapore is ranked the 13th most expensive city in the world, ahead of New York City, which is ranked 22nd. I plan to move to Australia next year and before that, I am planning to schedule a “mini-retirement” to Thailand. …

Pop Overs are Better than Peel Away Ads for Newsletter Opt-Ins

Thursday, 6th November 2008

I have been testing Popup Picker on my web sites. I tested peel away ads for one of my sites and it did not turn out very well for newsletter opt-ins. I think peel away ads are more suitable for special discount ads. I switched to pop over ad and my newsletter subscriptions doubled!

Subscribe to my newsletter to get the same script I used to double more newsletter subscriptions for free. Test it on your web site to see if it helps to increase the number of opt-ins.

Are You Ignoring the Long Tail of Your Product Line?

Monday, 15th September 2008

Forget about the selling just 20% of your products that bring in 80% of your sales. Keep selling the other 80% of your products because they still can make a lot of money is what Chris Anderson is trying to tell you in his book, The Long Tail.

I should have read this book earlier. If you haven’t, please check out my review of The Long Tail to see what you have been missing.

The Long Tail Review

Monday, 15th September 2008

The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of More” has been out since 2006 and there is even a new revised version that was released some time this year. I should have read it earlier but I didn’t think I needed it 2 years ago.

The long tail approach to search engine optimization refers to the targeting of lower traffic and lower demand keyword phrases in larger numbers instead of trying to target higher traffic and high demand keyword phrases. High traffic and high demand keyword phrases are scarce while the lower traffic and lower demand keyword phrases are abundant.

Outside of the SEO context, the long tail refers to this:
Our culture and economy are increasingly shifting away from a focus on a relatively small number of hits (mainstream products and markets) at the head of the demand curve, and moving toward a huge number of niches in the tail. In an era without the constraints of physical shelf space and other bottlenecks of distribution, narrowly targeted goods and services can be as economically attractive as mainstream fare.

Screen Recorder Discount Coupons for BB Flashback & BB Flashback Express

Saturday, 25th August 2007

I found a 50% discount for the popular screen recording software BB Flashback. The catch is you have to donate money to DonationCoder.com to be able to access the forum post with the discount code. There was no minimum donation policy when I joined but I am not sure if this will remain the same in the future.

BB Flashback Coupon

I tested the BB Flashback discount coupon 3 days ago and as you can see it is still valid. The original price is $199. I consider this the best value for money screen recorder. If you can’t afford to buy Camtasia, BB Flashback is the next best thing available.

BB Flashback Express Coupon

If you are on a tighter budget, you may want to consider getting BB Flashback Express. There are no editing features in this version and it lacks some other features of the normal version. At only $19.50 after the 50% discount coupon, this is a real bargain!

I won’t do a review of BB Flashback because Donation Coder has already reviewed most of the screen recorders available in the market today.

PayPerPost Review: Make Money Blogging In Every Post?

Thursday, 16th August 2007

PayPerPost is a blogging advertising network. They pay you to write about advertisers who list their products or services in their directory. I am not 100% sure about the blog requirements but here’s what I know at the moment:

  • You need a blog with at least 20 posts in the last 90 days. Therefore, you cannot simply create a new blog and blast 20 posts to qualify. You need a blog that is relatively popular and active to get accepted.
  • You will need a PayPal account to get paid.
  • You have to post a “disclosure badge” to show readers that your post is a sponsored post.

You can make money with PayPerPost in the following ways:

  • Blog about a product or service in their directory.
  • Refer people to the PayPerPost network. Your referrals get $15.00 once the their first blog posting is reviewed, approved and then finally accepted 30 days late.
  • After you have referred a new member to PayPerPost, you get paid $7.50 if they signed up through a “Review my post” PayPerPost link.
  • Advertise your blog with the “PayPerPost Direct” badge to tell prospective advertisers your blogging rate so that they may contact you to blog about their products.

PayPerPost does …

Where Is RegisterFly’s EPP Code?

Tuesday, 21st November 2006

I was trying to move some domains out of RegisterFly. One of them was going to expire soon so I knew it would be too late to try to move out of RegisterFly. The other domain I had a long way to go before expiry. I have tried to ask RegisterFly’s support on how to find my domains’ EPP codes but they are not responding. I searched on Google.com for help and realised a lot of people are having the same problem right now.

I read a post in a forum that mentions you can enter a random number into NameCheap.com’s EPP code verification box and get your RegisterFly domains transferred without any problems. I tried that for 2 of my domains and I am still waiting for the whole thing to process. I am not sure if it is going to work. It seems like RegisterFly is having problems with their EPP code system.

Therefore, if you have domains that are going to expire at RegisterFly, it would be better if you extend your domain with them for another year and move out once that extension is confirmed. My domain transfers have been dragging on …

How To Tame RegisterFly

Tuesday, 17th October 2006

I used to use RegisterFly a lot but not anymore. I like their cheap prices but their system sucks. I wonder why they could not create a better system. Their programmers must be mediocre!

In this blog entry, I will go through some dos and don’ts when using RegisterFly. Should you fail to apply some of these tips I mentioned, be prepared to spend a lot of your precious time fixing them. Time is money, if you do what I say, I guarantee you will spend less time getting their system to work.

1. Do not submit replies to your support tickets if RegisterFly has not replied

I learnt this the hard way. RegisterFly puts you in a queue when you submit your support request. Should you reply to your support request, you will put to a lower position in the queue. I don’t really understand how this works exactly but I think it is very stupid. Other support systems have an urgency criteria for you to select from something like critical to not so important issues. RegisterFly uses a “first come first served” queue system. They push you back to the back of the queue if you reply …

More Internet Marketing Related Product Reviews Coming Up…

Saturday, 7th October 2006

I have been rather quiet lately and I have been hesitant about posting new content to my blog. Why? Because most of the products I have been testing are crap and I have been through quite a bit of “hell” wasting my time and money on them. I was afraid my tone would not be too positive and it would affect the whole tone of my site with all these negative posts.
I reckon over 80% of the internet marketing products I bought over the last two and a half years are nonsense. That is why you see so many negative reviews on my blog. On one hand, I don’t want to write negative reviews about people’s products because I don’t really like to step on people’s toes. My friend told me if you keep on doing this, you won’t get many joint venture offers. On the other hand, some of these internet marketing products are so crappy I feel I must share my experience with you to add some balance to all the marketing hype (lies) out there.

The worst case scenario is I write a negative review about someone’s product and that person will never invite me to do joint …
